Brown Clipper
Common Name: Brown Clipper
Scientific Name: Parthenos sylvia philippenis
Wingspan: 8.5-9.0 cm
Location: Commonly found from Sri Lanka to China and in Thailand and Malaysia
The Brown Clipper is a member of the Nymphalidae family and prefers to be near waterfalls close to the forest edge. It closely resembles Parthenos sylvia lilacinus, but the color at the forewing dorsum and hindwing basal areas are less brilliant with a dark brown orange rather than lilac blue. The larvae eat Adenia palmata and Tinospora cordifolia.
